Who We Are

OUR INSPIRATION

In the Theory of Colors, Goethe remarked, “This impression of warmth may be experienced in a lively manner if we look at a landscape through a yellow glass, particularly on a gray winter’s day. The eye is gladdened, the heart expanded and cheered, a glow seems at once to breathe toward us.” Thus, “A Lively Manner” was born.

From the science of how we perceive particular hues (and our cultural differences in how we assign meaning to them), to the psychology of color and its profound impact on our emotions, Brandi conceived of a.l.m. out of a lifelong curiosity surrounding all things color.

Through A Lively Manner, she now encourages people to embrace bringing more color—whether bold or subdued—into the environments they live, work, and play in.

Because color is for everyone! And, color changes everything.

BRANDI’S STORY

Brandi has been captivated by color since her first sun-filtered memories at the age of 3. A child of the late ‘70s with Mexican and Swiss-German heritage, she was born into a world of Harvest Gold, Avocado Green, and Burnt Orange—one of the defining palettes of her life—and has been embracing the magic of color ever since.

As someone who lives and works with a chronic illness and disability (Long Covid, ME/CFS, ambulatory wheelchair user), Brandi is dedicated to universal design, which prioritizes accessibility and considers the comfort, safety, and enjoyment of every person who occupies a space—regardless of their age or abilities.

In addition to color consulting, Brandi is also a cross-disciplinary artist. Her artwork on the subject of color is held in the permanent collections of the Seattle Art Museum, Yale University, UCLA, University at Buffalo, and Reed College, and has been featured in a number of exhibitions, performance series, and publications in the U.S. and abroad.

Prior to becoming a color consultant, Brandi spent over two decades telling stories and shaping voices for some of the most culturally significant brands and publications in the world—from global leaders like Google and Adidas, to independent icons like Kim Dunham, Kinn Studio, and The Great Discontent.

She is currently pursuing her certification as a full-service interior designer at Parsons, The New School, in NYC.

“I hired Brandi to do a color consult to refresh my Airbnb. Based on a brief Q&A and some inspiration photos, she put together a nuanced and sophisticated color scheme and made paint, furniture, artwork, and decor selections that really knocked my socks off. She gave me a simple and comprehensive plan to move forward, and on top of that was also a joy to work with!”
